Rookie win for Jehan at Nurburgring
16 year old Jehan Daruvala of the Sahara Force India Academy made his maiden appearance at the Nurburgring circuit as a guest driver in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup series. Still in his first season of formula cars, the young Indian was once again impressive as a Rookie Driver & bagged another podium.
Jehan had a tough practice with a best laptime around 6 tenths of a second off the pace. In qualifying the Indian youngster managed 9th on the grid for Race 1 with an astounding 35 cars on the grid ! He made a good start & overtook Kevin Jorg at the start. He soon made another brilliant move around the outside of Ignazio D’Agosto on Turn 1, to move upto 7th & crossed the finish line in the same position.
The race was won by Jack Aitken ahead of Ukyo Sasahara. Jehan’s hard work earned him the ‘Best Rookie of the Race’ trophy on the Podium. “It is a tough track & with so many cars on the grid, a tiny mistake can cost you a lot of positions. I am happy to have won the Best Rookie trophy” said Jehan after Race.
Race 2 was one to be forgotten in all respects. Jehan was unable to put together a good lap in qualifying and he had to start 24th out of 35 as a result. Torrential rain at the start ensured that the race would start behind the safety car. On the opening lap behind the safety car itself, Jehan lost all drive in 4th gear. He had to retire from the race as a result. “I did not qualify well & before the race started, it was over. Its part and parcel of any sport.” said Jehan.
Jehan will now be racing again at the same venue the coming week as part of the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC series
